2009 Cambridgeshire Jamboree, 13/05/09

Linton retained the Jamboree trophy after a convincing win in the second of these annual tournaments, held at the Warboys club on 13 May. Four wins in the first round, followed by three wins and a draw in the second, meant that even though they slipped up in round 3 (one win, one draw and two losses) they still finished two points ahead of the opposition. The New England and Peterborough clubs tied for second place. Godmanchester Comrades, a new club, performed very creditably scoring five points.

Scores were as follows:

1Linton9 points (out of 12)
2=New England I7 points
Peterborough7 points
4St Neots6 points
5Warboys5½ points
6Godmanchester Comrades5 points
7New England II2½ points

Three players won all three of their individual games: Pat Heneghan (Linton), Alan Brookbanks (Peterborough) and Steve Foster (St Neots). I should also mention the remarkable performance of Chris Ross who scored 2½ points on top board for New England I, including a win and a draw against the two strongest players present, despite his blindness.

May I thank all those who took part and made this such an enjoyable evening.
