2010 Cambridgeshire Jamboree, 06/05/10

The 2010 Jamboree was a closely contested affair between the four leading sides, with Linton and New England A coming through in the final round to share the trophy. Royston were edged out into third place, while St Neots finished a highly creditable fourth, just half a point behind Royston.

Nine sides played three rounds of Rapidplay chess over a highly enjoyable evening at the Warboys club on 6 May. Last year's winners Linton and the League champions Royston both started strongly with 4 / 4 in the first round with New England and St Neots scoring just 2½. However the leaders slipped up in round 2, at the end of which Royston led with 6 points with their three challengers each half a point behind. Round 3 saw New England and Linton overtake Royston for a deserved joint victory.

Full scores were as follows:

1=New England A9 points
Linton9 points
3Royston8 points
4St Neots7½ points
5New England B5½ points
6=Warboys B4½ points
Godmanchester Comrades4½ points
8Warboys A4 points
9Octavia Hill (Wisbech)2 points

Three players scored a highly creditable three points: Chris Ross (top board for New England A), Peter Barkas (top board for St Neots) and Keith Woodhouse of Royston.

My thanks to all those who played.
