2011 Cambridgeshire Jamboree, 12/05/11

Nine teams contested the fourth Cambridgeshire Jamboree at the Godmanchester Comrades Club on Thursday 12 May. The venue was excellent, and we are indebted to the Comrades Club for their hospitality.

The teams played three rounds of Rapidplay chess, with a time handicap based on grading. It was keenly contested between the three leading sides: Linton, New England and Warboys. New England led after the first round with 3½ points, with Warboys on 2½ and Linton languishing on 2. New England maintained their lead after two rounds, moving to 6½ points with Warboys on 6 and Linton on 5.5. The final round saw Linton power through, winning all their games including two decisive head-to-head encounters, to finish on 9½ points, half a point ahead of New England.

Full scores were as follows:

Linton
New England A9
Warboys A8
St Neots6
Cambridge
Royston
New England B
Godmanchester Comrades4
Warboys B3

Three players scored a highly creditable 3 / 3 in their games: Mark Lim and Pat Heneghan for Linton and Ishan Ramdewar for New England A.

Linton's victory makes it three outright wins in the four years of the event, and in the other year they tied with New England. For their part New England have a shared victory and three second places.
