County MatchesEast Anglian County Champs, 23/11/08Sunday was the first round of the East Anglian County Champs. Cambridgeshire took quite a hit with several regular players (P.Kemp, C.Ross, N.Hutchinson, amongst others) not being able to make it. However, we fought hard against Beds, only going down 7-9, and even harder against Suffolk to draw 8-8. Suffolk had already, very creditably beaten Norfolk, and Beds lost to Norfolk in the afternoon. This means that if we can field a team with a few more of our regulars, we are well able to get ourselves back in contention in the new year. Good performances (in the sense of scores) came in from Ashley Stewart, John Daugman, Andrei Timishenko, and Patrick Ribbands. Special mention goes to our board 5, who dug into his trenches well against better graded players, especially in his first game playing an endgame a pawn down with three others trippled! | Cambs | | | | Suffolk |
